The Balance Habits List
The Balance Habits List
54 small things you can do at home, in the room you're already standing in.
Section 5
Stairs and steps
- Keep one hand on the railing every time, even for a single step.
- Grip the railing evenly rather than white-knuckling it.
- Step down sideways when the stairs feel steep.
- Step sideways off the last stair rather than straight down.
- Put a nightlight at the top and the bottom.
- Fix a loose railing the week you notice it.
Section 8
Around your home
- Tape down every loose cord along the wall — never under a rug.
- Tape down or remove the loose edge of any rug.
- Keep clutter off the floors, hallways first.
- Use a non-slip mat inside and outside the tub.
- Turn a light on before the bathroom at night.
- Add grab bars before you think you need them.
Section 1
At the kitchen counter
- Rest one hand on the counter and stand on one foot while the kettle boils.
- Face sideways and step along the counter, hand trailing the edge.
- Do ten slow heel raises with your fingertips on the counter.
- March in place, holding the counter lightly, lifting each knee slowly.
- Shift your weight foot to foot while you wait at the sink.
- Squat an inch or two gripping the counter, then stand tall.
No cost, no card. The list opens on the next screen straight away, and I email you the link so you can find it again.
Before you try any of them: practise with a counter, wall, or sturdy chair within arm's reach. These are general suggestions for everyday movement, not medical advice, and they don't replace a fall-risk assessment. If you've fallen recently, feel dizzy, or use a mobility aid, talk to your doctor first.
