7 Safe Ways to Get Up After a Fall

7 Safe Ways to Get Up After a Fall

Falls can happen to anyone, and knowing what to do next can help you stay calm and safe.

Here are 7 safe ways to get up after a fall:

1. Take a moment and breathe

Before moving, pause for a few seconds.

Take a deep breath and check if anything feels seriously painful.

2. Roll onto your side

If you feel able to move, slowly roll onto your side first instead of trying to sit straight up.

3. Move onto your hands and knees

Use your arms to gently push yourself onto all fours.

4. Crawl to something sturdy

Move slowly toward a stable chair, couch, or sturdy piece of furniture.

5. Place one foot flat on the floor

Bring one knee forward so one foot is flat on the ground.

6. Use the furniture for support

Hold onto the chair or couch and slowly push yourself upward.

7. Sit down and rest once you’re up

Don’t rush.

Sit down for a moment and make sure you feel steady before walking.

If you feel sharp pain, dizziness, or think you may be injured, call for help right away.

Knowing what to do can make all the difference.
